The Smuggler’s Inn, Osmington Mills, is steeped in romantic
history. In the late 18th Century, the infamous French smuggler,
Pierre Latour made his headquarters at the Inn, and it was here
that he fell for the beauty and charm of the publican’s daughter,
Arabella Carless.
Their fairytale romance ended tragically, when Arabella was shot
dead
by the local militia while helping her husband to escape during
a raid.
Today, the pub is still frequented by the couples looking to enjoy
the romance of its secluded location on the cliffs overlooking Weymouth
Bay.
